We’ve been trying to get away for a mountain bike trip the last few weekends to celebrate Sharon’s September birthday, but lots of rain has been falling in all the places we’ve wanted to go.
Then we realized the forecast for this past weekend was sunny and warm on Vancouver Island in October. Why were we trying to leave the island???
So we went over to the Hartland Mountain Bike Park to crank out some miles.
The sun was shining so strongly it managed to penetrate deeper into the forest than usual and light the trails up in green and gold.
The trails are starting to get wet and we had to begin flexing our Jedi BC wet root riding skills. By the end of the winter we’ll bomb down rooty trails like they were nothing, but at the moment it’s something that takes a lot of care and attention if we don’t want to crash.
I got to try some “new to me” trails that had recently been worked on and were very fun to ride. I’m trying to figure out how I incorporate them into my usual Hartland loops.
All in all it was a great day to be out on the bike and we didn’t have to ride a ferry! 😉
